I totally forgot to mention that I had updated the look of the site, but in hindsight I suppose it is completely obvious that it is no longer dark green.
I overhauled the links section and finaly added a link to it back to the menubar; it is of course titled "link". I had to route out all of the crap I had linked, go through and add a bunch of stuff about my politics, and then get scared of doing anything music related and stop. This whole process took quite some time.
However, right now I am working on a music section that hopefully I can launch sometime within the next 2 weeks. I'm going to have to design some database tables for it so that I have a chance in hell of actually updating it; but at least so far it has been pretty useful for organizing myself and figuring out what concerts I want to hit up, what bands I should be keeping an eye on, and other similar activities. Hopefully I can find my The Pillows "Kim Deal" tab and put it up there, and ressurect the 3 year old completely abandoned "Pillows Tablature Project".
I have realized that the number of friends I'd be living with has been reduced from 20 to 1, and so in order to combat this I have begun plans to make frequent outings to NYC; mostly music related. I started listening to indie music a while back, but started getting really into it about a month ago and then hardcore about 2 weeks ago when I saw my HS friend Folgers and we BS'ed about music. Of course, the NYC Scene right now is absolutely ridiculously fantastic, and there are all sorts of innovative bands that are kicking everyones ass playing at small intimate venues.
Last thursday, I went to Sin-e to see an art rock band named a hefty and unwieldy Areyoustillbreathing. I wrote a review of the show too, and I have some pictures that I took (that probably came out pretty badly in the dark) that I'll eventually organize and plop there along with it.
Yesterday, I went to see Shy Child at the same venue, and my god they were great. I'll write a review of the shy child show eventually, so what will be a broken link for a while will someday end up with content. I was going to go see Miho from Cibo Matto tonight, but I made a stand and decided I wouldn't go alone... and it ended up that nobody wanted to go with me.
Tomorow night there is a benefit for John Kerry at 7:00 or so at Sin-e; I'm still not sure if I'm going to go (or if the young woman I was drunkenly talking to on the N train last night is going to go), but if anyone in the hoboken/jersey city area is up for it hit me up; I'll definitely go in a group.
Moving into the apartment has been slow going, and lots of things seem to be broken. The gas wasn't turned on until recently, but even with it on the hot water in the bathroom is mysteriously absent. I've taken about 4 cold showers this week, without ever being excessively horny once. At least; that is what I understand of the utility of the cold shower, but I am here to tell you that it's probably bullshit and no man should be subjected to the cold shower on any type of regular schedule. The fridge we bought doesn't seem to have a light, which I guess is only a minor annoyance and only at night, and my deficiency in building things has caused 3 of my desk drawers to act a little sticky. Nothing a planer won't fix I guess.
Last night on the train I met this guy named Matthew Molnar; He's the guitarist for a band called Hearts On Fire. He was reading The Pixies interview in Spin magazine, and I started talking to him about some music. He was a really cool guy who was actually into a lot of the Brit pop & post punk stuff I've been listening to recently (Like the Inspiral Carpets, Joy Division, The Stone Roses, etc), and he gave me their EP and told me to show up to their show at the Lit Lounge on the 1st of September. I'm a little iffy right now about that show because Shy Child is playing at the Knitting Factory and the drummer told me he'd bring some CD's, but they are playing again on the 3rd so I might take the car down there on Friday or something and catch them in Philly.
As always, I still have some stuff I want to smooth over on my site, and having spent the better part of 8 hours today cleaning up HTML and PHP code, I'm basically primed to do it. I hope that I can get a good 4 hours in tonight working on the music section; the DSL which was supposed to be hooked up last night still hasn't arrived, so I can only hope that the Mendozafamily keeps their DSL turned on and their wireless router open a bit longer so I can get some work done.
