Lucas, Christian and Nereo are in town! In celebration, we all hooked up (quite timely) at Pianos last night to shoot the shit and see Shy Child. Jerm came with, so together with Kris there were 4 generations of alpha Sig big/little. Add in Hortie and you have the olde English recipe for fun. Also in attendance, rounding out a 9 person shindig, were Nereo's girlfriend Steph (I hope that name is right) and Ray.
I learned, rather unfortunately, that Yeungling has a peanuty aftertaste; one which I had never really caught before being told. On the subject of beers, I'm liking black & tan's more than just black or just tan, and I have a new favorite in Magic Hat #9. Any night where avenues for unrecallable good times are newly opened is going to be a good one.
After having some (quite delicious) bar food, which for our motley crew was oddly squid and vegitarian dumplings, we headed to the back to catch the show. I never had been to Piano's before, but its layout was similar to every other place in the city. Their sound proofing kicked ass, but their stage area was tiny and half-filled with gear. Shy Child kicked some ass; they had a guy play Sax on one part (an awesome, epechoral solo), I think it was Seth Misterka. His solo, which went through some crazy reverb, was some delightful high pitched ethereal nightmare; it sounded like a ghost was in his instrument and it was trying desperately to esecape. After the show we got some Cd's and Luke rushed back in with his giant marker to get the Nate to sign his.
A highlight of any night on Houston street, we ended off the show with a stop at Punjabi. I had a small #2 & #4. You had to be there. I was informed on good authority that there will be 2 shy child shows in January; one at Sin-e and one at the Delancey. Nate told me he had never played Delancey and he'd probably never play Piano's again; I saw Shy Child and of course Are You Still Breathing (who, ironically, do not seem to still be breathing) at Sin-e and must say I think the sound at that club is pretty good.
I just can't be funny about this entry; last night was an awesome time, and I just felt the need to record it so that perhaps in the future I can refer to this point in my life as "192". I leave you with important notes from the Shy Child One With The Sun insert:
Just because there are a lot of keyboards on this record, that doesn't mean the music wasn't played by a live band. This music has been mixed to be played loud, so turn it up.
