The FLCL DVD vol 1 is mine. God does it feel good. There are a number of truly, unparallelled awesome things done with this release. I'll list them quickly before going off to destroy whoever is calling whoever it is they are calling in my room, making the phone ring every 15 seconds.
- The translation is perfect.
- Translation notes!
- Loads of extras! DVDs are all about extras. More on this in a bit..
- Reversible (TRUE: Bandai?) covers.
- Japanese feel.
- No exclusion of Japanese material.
- Translated comic sequence in the insert booklet!
The insert is amazing. The sheer quality of this release makes me instantly forget the fact that it was delayed about a year. Who cares? Not I. Certainly, FLCL DVD 1 is a breath of fresh air, to say the least. I almost don't mind the fact that it was delayed at all after the quality of the release. Its almost like synchpoint knew that I didn't want to pay for crap.
Anyway, it was discussed at an earlier date by different people that the reason you get a DVD is for the extras. I just want my anime at the best possible quality, but its true that a DVD without any extras kinda feels like repackaged filth. One thing I found odd was that they left out a particular Japanese pun in the translation notes; well, not left out. I'll explain.
Number 13 for episode 1 says "Kuri to Risu", and explains it to be an Ebichu reference. It is an ebichu reference, but thats not really explaining what it means. The Japanese words Kuri and Risu mean chestnuts and squirrels. Of course, when you say it quickly, it sounds like the japanization of the English word "Clitoris", "kuritorisu". Its a pretty funny japanese-english pun, and it was indeed used in Ebichu.
Anyway, theres really nothing else for me to talk about. Woke up really early this morning and did nothing for a long time, at which point I went to work and did very little there. Now I'm back in my room, doing very little. Behold, the coolest keyboard EVER. I want one. Adeus.
