I had the pleasure of joining a co-worker of mine for a BBQ this saturday; it was quite the event. The route, for those of you who might be in the area, was to take the path to Journal Square, then a bus up to North Bergen. That was the plan at least. I missed the bus that was in the terminal upon my arrival in Journal Square due to the draconian exact change bus laws. No bother, I can wait 30 minutes. I have games on my phone.
It would appear that in the Journal Square bus terminal, 25 minutes of phone bowling is all you need to get an insane and possibly retarded man to follow you around. So here I was with a 12 pack of yueng, trying to escape him. I don't really know what he wanted but he didn't appear to either, so it didn't bother me too much. Needless to say, running down the street with a 12 pack trying to escape someone screaming at the top of their lungs was a fun way to start the bbq. And getting a taxi cab home and skipping the 2 and a half hour retard route was an even better way of ending it.
So after enjoying a little chicken, sausage, beer, company, brownies, pretzles and music, I hightailed it back to hoboken to unwittingly partake in the first anual 007 old meets new playoff: the features were Dr. No and Tomorow Never Dies. Orange Juice and Vodka were present, but alas, 7up was not. Even so, the similarities between the two films were astonishing. For instance, in Dr. No, 007 defeats the evil megalomaniac by turning up the danger in his secret aquatic base. In Tomorow Never Dies, 007 defeats the evil megalomaniac by setting off an explosion on a tank of liquid danger... of course, within his secret aquatic base.
The next day, I grabbed my Unequal Protection and a piece of beautifully written anti-empire literature and headed home to say goodbye to my godfather and to fix my brothers computer; the latter of which was a not altogether unforseen consequence of having uttered the sentence "Me building a computer would be cheaper." But finishing both of these books over the weekend has taught me two things:
- I need to read Thomas Paine's The Rights of Man
- I need to create a booklist for this site
Apparently, I also need an itemized list of what to write about so that I don't forget while caught in a rabid discussion about corporate personhood or Israel vs. Palestine.
