travel
: going places and doing things
I absolutely love to travel and try to travel as much as possible. Recently, I've been to Portugal, Turkey, Japan, and Egypt.
I suppose this post is long overdue in a lot of ways. I've ended my employment at Attila Technologies and started a position at Advance Internet. I've quit my job as a toolsmith/utility/architect and have become a python/django developer. I started my new job not in Journal Square (where the company is located), but in Austin, Texas.
Tonight I lit a paper lantern on fire. Heat gathered inside the lantern until it was lighter than air. We all made a wish, and let go. I watched it fly high, high, high into the dark night sky. I wish I was asleep.
Usually i try to write these titles in the proper alphabet, but I'm too tired and frankly I have no idea where to find a resource for even the most simple Thai phrase (hello!).
Went to the/a doctor today. From what she told me, my lower abdominal pain and other symptoms can be one of 4 possibilities:
In honor of those zany Japanese, and my return from their zany country, I'm featuring somewhat of an independent collaboration between myself and Jeremy Mikola, formerly of arsjerm fame. Herein we give our thoughts on the latest limited edition Japan-only soft drink, Pepsi Ice Cucumber.
Sitting in my 6-tatami room in the Daiya Ryokan in Kyoto. For the uninitiated, a tatami is a small woven mat; kind of like a rug made out of straw. You cover the floor with tatami panels which are about 3 feet by 6 feet, and however many you can fit in the room, that's how big it is. Most rooms are made purposefully to dimensions that allow maximum tatami coverage.
I should really apply myself to this blog a little more such that every other post doesn't have to start off with an apology. Egypt is somewhat a distant memory, not because it wasn't fantastic, but because I am eagerly anticipating the future. I guess I can't really go into it in much detail now, but there are another few trips coming up (Japan and So. America), and some people coming from far away places (2 in the next 6 months), and projects might finally end at work.
I'm in Aswan now. I spent a rather ill fated day in Luxor, barely staying concious in 35 degree heat in the Valley of the Kings. Visited King Tut's tomb, etc. It was great, except for my food poisoning. Some ammount of vomit and feeling better later, I ended up in Aswan.
I'm in Cairo right now. In keeping with the custom of making at least one post from the countries that I visit, this is it. I can put a checkmark on 'Africa', although everyone says that this is somewhat cheating.
On March 8th, 2002, I made a mistake. In typical fashion, I'll beat around the bush now and explain a lot of things that nobody cares about before getting to the point. It's a sad attempt to build your suspense, and if you are reading this sentence right now, it probably worked. Shame on you.
I've been pretty bored the last few days; its what happens when you get used to actually doing stuff and then stop again. Since fake liberal politics are more entertaining and less scary than real neo-con politics, my weekend was going to be filled with West Wing Season 2. This was entertaining enough, and it passed the time just fine, but I felt like I should have been doing more than just passing time on a 3 day weekend.
We were all supposed to update after Boston; it was going to be the first cool thing we did for a while, and certainly we'd want to write about it. But apparently, firu and I don't feel the need to be cool. The other possibility, of course, is that we forgot, or that we just didn't fucking feel like it. Besides, I didn't even bring my camera.
Typing on my good old dell keyboard, the one without the non-dotted "i", the "c" or "s" with the cedillia, and without the "g" with the curved bar on top, is something that I enjoy very much. So much so in fact, that I think I'll type for a while, right now. I hope you have as much fun as I do.
Merhaba! I cannot type very well on the turkish keyboards here, mostly because any word with an "i" in it is going to be a little hard to spell. This is because in turkish, there are two types of i`s, a dotted i: "i" and an undotted i: "ı". The dotted i ıs pronounced "EE" and the other one ıs "ih" or somethıng. Anyway, things are going well here; lots of pictures, and I'll be returning sometime on the 16th.
The site design is new, but is it improved? Only time will tell.
I'm in portugal. The trip has been great, only 1 week to go; but for some reason I feel like I've done nothing, and in many ways this feeling is due to the fact that I have indeed done nothing. For the first time I decided to stay home instead of go out and sight see or visit people or whatever, and I think for the first time since I started this vacation, it will seem and feel vacation-like.
