@jmoiron Google v. Oracle ruling went the "right way" IMHO, but I'm having difficulty rationalizing why (other than the alternative is really damaging) and the "fair use because it brought Java to a new platform" argument is not persuasive. J2ME predate's Android, for instance.

@jmoiron Osterhout's POSD is very thought provoking. The framework it creates to dissect software design is excellent. Not sure I would have been able to absorb its lessons just by reading it, but I certainly would have learned them faster equipped with its vocabulary.

@jmoiron @amontalenti This is pretty big in HK. Without automatic transcription, you lose the ability to scan these conversations, so it's sweet spot is pretty narrow, mostly one-way notifications like "i'm leaving now", and many other potential uses involve a big tradeoff.
