@jmoiron@benbjohnson @bryanl It's this bike. Works great when the road you want fits. https://t.co/oY3ctXfJId
@jmoiron@benjaminws @nerdsane Well, if it's "just" hard, then we can still do it! "They're always this" is fatalist IMHO. I still think the best outcome is a system directly on top of the k8s API focused on composable/reusable abstractions. This was the goal, we just didn't get there.
@jmoironI wrote about C++ and how it's still ugly and confusing to me https://t.co/KAmiAjyQXp
@jmoiron@billychasen You've met new people?
@jmoiron@nerdsane The optimist in me still wants to believe "we've tried this a lot, but it's really hard, so we've failed on some level" rather than "this is as good as it gets."
@jmoironIt's been about 2 1/2 years since I wrote "Is K8s Too Complicated?" and things haven't changed much on that front. Two possibilities: the complexities are irreducible, or it is hard to build meaningful abstractions on the platform.
@jmoironHashiCorp stuff is, among other things, an opportunity to use HCL instead of YAML and there's always a part of me that thinks "yeah that's probably worth it alone"

@jmoiron@16kRAM Is that @Koenig_Software in the third photo?
@jmoironThis is a common sentiment. The performance work that makes this approach successful is a positive externality that is easy to take for granted. https://t.co/UBRWu89CaX

@jmoironAlso I've been to Vietnam several times and the food is fucking awesome, so joke is on that guy, whose bio is still up on my university's site as a .doc with the font sent to comic sans.
@jmoironOn encouragement, the prof for my sr. project said outsourcing would kill programming jobs for gearheads like me, leaving only mgmt jobs like his. At the end-project 1-1 he told me "You will have to move to Vietnam" and "I hope you like rice" to which I replied "i LOVE rice." htt...
@jmoironAfter about ~18 months of flapping on and offline, it seems like the high-res photography focused background img site interfacelift is finally, truly dead for good. There is a (203GB) archive available https://t.co/tC9KWSqn4u. What site has filled the vacuum?
@jmoiron@_zombiezen_ Reminds me a lot of the chubby story from https://t.co/4o3MbJBPGe which doesn't really name it, but references chaos monkey and "failure injection" in the biblio

@jmoiron@GreatSnoopy77 @copyconstruct I'm not saying 100% remote can't work, I'm saying hybrid remote+office companies tend to centralize decision making power in the office, and that choosing to not go to the office will have subtle but inevitable impact because humans are social beings...
@jmoiron@copyconstruct Any non-remote-only is likely to involve a tradeoff. I would guess that executives will desire the higher bandwidth of f2f meetings, which means high management will follow for access. If the decision makers are in the office, being there too will have impact.
@jmoiron@copyconstruct I think a lot of post-virus WFH bandwagoners are missing out on the understanding that office + remote environments are different from 100% remote, and that the decision to be remote in such a hybrid setup carries with it tradeoffs in access, networking opportuniti...
@jmoironLove Apple's 2fa implementation, "we've sent this code to a laptop you've not opened for 6 months."
